Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed monthly, with the first review in August 2025.  Applications will not be accepted after  February 19, 2026, for the 2025-2026 academic year and summer.

Applications to be submitted at least 5 months in advance of when it is anticipated to host the guest scholar/guest artist.

Notre Dame Global is pleased to announce the Asia Guest Scholar/Artist Partnership Program. The goal of this program is to partner with on-campus centers/institutes/departments in bringing to Notre Dame guest scholars and artists from Asia with outstanding reputations in their field. During the visit, the guest scholar/artist would pursue their own research/creative work and discuss future collaborations, while engaging in the intellectual/artistic life and community at Notre Dame.

Applications may be made for a semester or part thereof, with a minimum stay of 2 weeks. A faculty member must agree to submit an application from the hosting unit/center/department, including supporting documentation from the guest scholar/artist. That faculty member must also be willing to facilitate engagement on campus, and the hosting unit/center/department must be willing to facilitate logistics.

The Asia Guest Scholar/Artist will be expected to, at a minimum, give a talk to faculty/graduate students in the hosting unit regarding their research/creative work, and depending on the length of stay, more engagement is welcomed. The application should include details of that planned engagement. If the guest scholar/artist is coming from the locale of one of Notre Dame's global locations, details of engagement, on their return, with the University through that location are requested.

*All international guest scholars/artists will need an immigration status to enter the U.S. The hosting unit will be responsible for engaging International Student and Scholar Affairs (ISSA) in the process of determining the appropriate visa status and securing any necessary documentation.

ELIGIBILITY  Full-time regular members of the Notre Dame faculty, library faculty, and special professional faculty are eligible to apply as hosts from a center/institute/department/library.

Eligible Expenses  Funding is provided up to $10,000 for a semester based on matched cost sharing and on an expenses-only basis, with the following expenses being eligible:

  • Visa Costs (if applicable)*

Notre Dame Global and the College of Arts and Letters are pleased to announce a joint opportunity to enable faculty from the College of Arts and Letters to apply to participate in the work of Notre Dame London, by teaching within the London undergraduate study abroad program for one semester during the academic year 2027-28, and by carrying out research activities aligned with the College’s and University’s strategic goals. (Please note that this is not our next academic year, but rather, for F27 or S28).

We welcome applications from all regular faculty by March 6, 2026. The selection committee will review applications within six weeks of the submission deadline. Pertinent criteria for selection include: contributions to the undergraduate curriculum while in London; the benefit to faculty member’s research that being in London will have; the contribution to the College’s and University’s strategic goals while in London. Faculty will be expected to engage in good academic citizenship, including a commitment to participate in and support research events, as well as service to the Notre Dame London community as agreed with the leadership of Notre Dame London. Selected candidates will teach one course on the London Undergraduate Program, with the equivalent time of another course dedicated to research activities and supporting Notre Dame’s academic initiatives in the UK.

Notre Dame Global covers the cost of a round-trip airfare for the faculty member and one family member and provides accommodation within Fischer Hall (near Trafalgar Square). Notre Dame London can provide visa advice, which faculty are asked to seek before applying (see below). The faculty member continues to receive his or her regular salary and benefits. If the chosen applicant’s spouse is an employee of the university and wishes to be in London for the semester, it is the responsibility of the spouse to request appropriate arrangements with their department or unit, and the decision of the department or unit whether to approve them.

If interested in pursuing this opportunity at Notre Dame London, please provide the following:

1. A cover letter that articulates your reason for applying to work in London, including:

a.  The advantages to teaching your course in London (site visits, cultural connections, guest speakers, London/European topics, etc.), and the unique opportunities for learning and research that your course will offer your students while they are studying abroad.

b. Your plans to utilize the visit to advance your current research agenda (accessibility to archives/libraries, ability to interact with colleagues at local universities, cultural centers, etc.)

c. How you will support the College’s and the University’s strategic goals.

d. Please indicate your preferences (if any) for which of the two semesters you wish to be considered.

e. Please also note that we are particularly keen to support applications that present a vision for how the applicant’s teaching and research in London can have strategic longevity, even beyond the semester in residence.

2. One course description as described in the supporting documentation in this Visiting Faculty Application Information Page.

  1. Preference will be given to courses designed to satisfy a university requirement in the core curriculum.
  2. We are eager to consider proposals that incorporate a significant independent research project and experiential learning via site visits in London and environs to complement in-class learning.

Please see this page for more information on teaching in London.

3.  A proposal for organizing at least one academic initiative (eg. conference, workshop, lectures, seminar series etc.) during your visit, that can advance your research goals and those of the College and University. The proposal(s) should be between 350-500 words. Please note that Notre Dame London will provide $5,000.00 in support of the successful applicant’s proposal; applicants are encouraged to seek additional funding from appropriate sources on campus.

4. A current CV.

5. A statement of support from your department chair or institute director, granting permission for you to be away from campus for one semester, to be submitted directly to Vittorio Montemaggi (vmontema@nd.edu), Academic Director of Notre Dame London.

6. Before applying, please contact Michael Tucker (mtucker5@nd.edu) to discuss potential visa requirements.

Thank you for your consideration of this opportunity. Please contact Charlotte Parkyn (cparkyn@nd.edu) with any questions you may have.
