The Italian Studies Library Research Award is a grant awarded by the Center for Italian Studies and Notre Dame International to support scholars who travel to use the Italian Studies collections within Notre Dame’s Hesburgh Libraries.
Funding between $1,500 and $4,000 will be awarded to help defray the costs of travel and accommodation for a research visit of 1 - 3 weeks. The amount of the award will be based on the length of the research visit and specific travel and accommodation expenses.
Grants are competitive. Please complete this application and submit by 11.59 pm EST on December 12 , 2023. You will receive notification when your application has been received, and applicants will be notified of the award decisions in late February 2024.
We seek applications from PhD graduate students who might be aided by being in London in their pursuit of research and the opportunity to teach. We particularly encourage applications from students working in areas that are currently of strategic importance to the College of Arts & Letters.
We can currently accommodate only one at a time, whether for a semester or for a full academic year, due to budgetary constraints and the availability of accommodations.The graduate students who come to the LGG would be those in their fourth year of studies, with their course work behind them, but before completing their dissertation in their fifth year.
We will clear the applicant’s availability after they have expressed interest with their advisors and their respective colleges, as there are, more recently, expectations that graduate students be available for teaching on campus.
The documents required from each applicant are as follows:
- A cover letter - explaining the nature of teaching and research fields; explanation of interest in teaching/research in London. Note preference of full year or specific semester.
- One draft course proposal
- An updated CV
- A letter of support from their supervisor granting permission for applicants to be away from campus for one semester or for the year.
The application deadline for the academic year 2024/2025 is 15 January 2024. We hope to make a decision and notify the selected graduate student by 1 February 2024.
